Siemens Energy has won the first Decentralized Energy (DE) demonstration project in Guangdong Province and will provide two SGT-400 gas turbines units for Guangzhou Aotou Decentralized Energy Station.

The customer is Guangzhou Electric Development Group (GDG). The Decentralized Energy Station will not only provide power supply for Aotou Industrial Zone, but also supply industrial steam and cooling to enterprises in the industrial zone. By means of combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP), the SGT-400 gas turbines will support the customers to maximizing its energy efficiency and profitability.

The latest edition of China's Five-Year Plan for Renewable Energy Development put significant focus on developing decentralized energy systems, especially fueled by natural gas. By 2015, around 1000 decentralized energy system projects and around ten natural gas decentralized energy demonstration zones are planned to be built.

"Compared with the traditional centralized energy supply approach, natural gas decentralized energy system has the feature of highly efficient, environmental friendly, fast speed, high flexibility and low emission," says Zhang Tian Gui, Senior Vice President of Siemens Ltd., China and General Manager of Power Generation Division of Energy Sector China. "With a comprehensive product and solution portfolio, Siemens will continually support the development of decentralized energy in China."

A decentralized energy system is one of the most efficient energy production methods to utilize natural gas. Converting natural gas into electricity power and cool or heat at the same time, usually in the form of steam and hot water, the CCHP have a fuel efficiency of more than 80 percent and simultaneously minimize nitrogen oxide emissions.

Siemens gas turbines and the associated service are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. Around 43 percent of its total revenue stems from green products and solutions. That makes Siemens one of the world's leading providers of eco-friendly technology.
